Rick McClanahan, Founder / CEO

Rick has been working in the financial sector for over 18 years, helping clients protect their assets and invest wisely. His success in his financial practice led to a overwhelming desire to educate people about their finances and to give back to his community. Thus was born The American Financial Education Alliance.
After graduating from high school Mr. McClanahan served 8 years on three different ships in the United States Navy and is a proud veteran of Desert Shield and Desert Storm. While serving our country he worked in the ship's finance department where he got his start assisting other service members with their finances. During his time in the military he was able to complete his undergraduate studies as well marry and begin raising 3 wonderful children: Jordan, Raven and Domenic.

Jeremy Bryant, Chief Operations Officer

Jeremy grew up in the Lakes Region area of New Hampshire and graduated from Saint Anselm College – Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Biology in 2001.  He then moved from NH to Kannapolis, NC where he started his career as a Financial Advisor with a career agency.   In January 2011 he decided to become an Independent Advisor to offer more comprehensive planning options.  In April 2011 he helped in the creation of AFEA.   Jeremy moved to China Grove, NC in 2005 where he now lives with his wife, Camden.  Together they raise their two Children, Reese and Beckett and their niece and nephew, Aunna and Gracin.

Yolanda N. Davis, Chief Financial Officer

Yolanda brings an extensive wealth of nonprofit knowledge and experience to AFEA. She is the CEO & Managing Member of The Y9 Group, a boutique consulting firm for nonprofit organizations.  She is also a Realtor® and licensed real estate broker in North Carolina.  Yolanda previously worked as an auditor specializing in the financial services for Ernst & Young, LLP. 

She holds a Graduate Certificate under the Masters of Public Administration program in Nonprofit Management from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, a Masters of Science in Accountancy from Wake Forest University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology (minor in Chemistry) from Winston-Salem State University.  She is a member of the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association (which includes both the national and state associations), National Association of Black Accountants, and Beta Alpha Psi.

Yolanda sits on the board and is co-founder of two nonprofit organizations, Tea Talk Women's Fellowship and Family & Community Hope Resources, both based in Greensboro, NC.  Her goal in all of her endeavors is to live out the mission of The Y9 Group, which is to help create and build programs and organizations that will efficiently and effectively strengthen our communities through education, social awareness and a call to action to give back to those less fortunate. She feels that AFEA and its mission is perfectly aligned with these goals and looks forward to contributing to such a great cause

Katherine Lesch, Senior Academic Coordinator | Office Manager

A 3rd generation Charlottean by both sides of her family, Katherine brings to AFEA a strong passion for creating and maintaining each relationship she forms through work and always aims to please. She studied at both North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC and King's College in Charlotte. She has previous experience in the marketing field as well as the customer service arena.  Outside of work she can most often be found accompanied by childhood friend, fellow Charlotte native, and husband, Adam, along with their two dogs, Moose and Aussie. She enjoys painting, spending time with family, decorating, and watching old movies.

Kaeleen Bruce, Academic Coordinator / AFEA Material Manager

Kaeleen is a graduate of King's College where she earned her degree in office administration. She brings a strong passion for customer service and problem solving to AFEA, and believes that her work is not done until her customers are satisfied. Although she was born in West Virginia and raised in High Point, NC she now calls Charlotte, NC her home. When she's not at work you can most likely find Kaeleen at the gym, lost in a good book, spending time with her family, or relaxing at home with her husband, Casey, and dog, Payton, watching a good movie.

Laural Cipperly, Academic Coordinator Assistant / Junior Academic Coordinator

Laural comes from a highly demanding customer service background. Making sure her customers are well taken care of is truly her pleasure. Along with personal customer care, Laural also brings to AFEA her passion for organization and willingness to help others. Even though she was born and raised in Alabama, Laural is happy to call Charlotte her home. During her time away from work, Laural enjoys spending time with her friends, exploring new restaurants, and relaxing at home with her cat, The G.

Raven McClanahan, Media Coordinator

At a young age, Raven developed a strong sense of devotion for the nonprofit sector whilst observing her father establish the American Financial Education Alliance. She manages the online presence at AFEA and is passionate about customer service and social media marketing. She is currently helping AFEA establish a strong presence on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest, all of which are growing rapidly with new fans every day. Outside of work, she can most often be found relaxing at the lake with her grandparents, “binge-watching” her favorite Netflix TV shows, or studying for her degree in business and marketing.

Domenic McClanahan, Chapter Development Specialist

Domenic was born at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. Some years later, he and his family moved to Charlotte, NC. At a young age, Domenic had discovered he had a profound interest in computers and all things technology related. He was very involved with AFEA in 2013-14 when the organization started to expand as the Chapter Development Specialist and has continued to assist the effort to spread Financial Education. When not at work, Domenic can most likely be found at the movie theatre with friends, fishing at his grandparents’ house or enjoying some Notre Dame football on Saturdays with his father, Rick.
